Beautiful Morning - 7-31-14

Contamination Removal Update - July 31, 2014

We are very close to completing the contamination removal. The golf course maintenance staff will be focusing on #3 Monday (August 4, 2014). We hope to have 90% of the herbicide applied areas repaired with new turfgrass (plugs & sod). We should have this green completed by Tuesday. After #3 is complete, we will focus on any areas (very small) throughout the golf course. Our goal is to make sure all the putting surfaces are healthy and ready for the upcoming winter season. By my calculations from last year and this year, we have removed an estimated 33,000 - 36,000 square feet of turf from the putting surfaces. The golf course maintenance staff appreciates the patience and understanding from the membership throughout this process. This approach is the best for the future of the putting surfaces and the membership of Brookstone Golf & Country Club. Below is some pictures of the process and results from #10 & #15 Greens. The staff will continue to topdress the areas as small as a silver dollar to promote tie-in, smoothness and growth.

What a View!

I wanted to share this view from Saturday July 26, 2014.

#3 Green

We are continuing (very close to completing) the contamination removal in the greens. First I would like to give a big THANK YOU for the patience and understanding of the members during this process. We have come a long way in the past two years in removing the contamination from the putting surfaces.#3 green is the last major removal of contamination. We applied the herbicide (as you see in the pictures) and will grow-in the smaller areas, plug the medium size areas and sod the larger areas. This process is necessary for the future playability and integrity of the putting surfaces. The last picture is of #4. As you can see the plugs have tied-in nicely. #3 Green will look very similar to #4 in about two weeks.

Topdressing Winter Kill Areas

We are addressing some areas where we received Winter Kill in the fairways. The golf course maintenance staff has been working diligently in addressing these areas. We have aerified, fertilized and topdress these areas frequently throughout the summer. We were very fortunate not to have many areas in relation to other golf course in the area. These areas will be filled in and ready for another winter (hopefully NOT to damaging).

Brookstone Golf & Country Club Championship 2014

The maintenance staff would like to congratulate Mr. Rusty Womack in winning the 2014 Brookstone Golf & Country Club Championship. Mr. Womack shot 72, 72 for a total of 144. The members were very pleased with the course conditions and improvements to the greens regarding the contamination removal. The staff looks forward to next year's Club Championship.

Greens Committee Meeting July 2, 2014

The slide show below contains the topics and discussion points of the Greens Committee meeting on July 2, 2014. As always, I want to commend the Greens Committee for their continued support of the members, maintenance staff and the Brookstone Golf & Country Club facility. This year there has been much improved communication to the membership regarding golf course improvements, maintenance of the golf course and comments from the membership.
